Our first full day!!

After a great nights sleep we decided to head out for breakfast this morning.  The destination was Snow City Cafe... this little restaurant that was voted #1 breakfast in Anchorage!  When we got there it was PACKED and we ended up waiting for an hour but it was sooooo worth it!!  I took one look at the menu and knew exactly what I wanted... eggs benedict on top of king crab crab cakes on top of an english muffin and served with hash browns!!  Jason got a breakfast burrito and a side of reindeer sausage (which was REALLY good)!!  It was all soooo worth the wait!! Here's a picture...

After breakfast we went and dropped the car back off at the hotel and walked down to the Tony Knowles Bike Trail for a walk right on the coast!!  We walked for I can't tell you how many miles surrounded by the Cook Inlet, Mountains, wildlife and lots of snow in the shaded areas!!

The tallest peak here is an active volcano
Still lots of snow and ice in shaded areas
 Mountains
Adorable ducks, sound asleep on the cold cold ice
Okay so there are benches under there somewhere!!
These beautiful birds are everywhere and they make the prettiest noises

The most regal and majestic bird ever created!!

We even got to see Mt. McKinley, which apparently is very rare.  We've been told that only 1-in-3 people who visit Alaska get to see McKinley's peak... we not only got to see it but we saw it from Anchorage, 2 hours away from the entrance to Denali National Park!! Needless to say we can't wait until our drive up to Fairbanks when we will get to see this giant of a mountain up close and personal!! We attempted to take a picture but the camera just can't quite capture her like the human eye but if you look closely you can see her!!

After our long walk we jumped in the car and started to drive south and we were in awe the whole time!! The road is literally right on the coast with only a guard rail and some mug flats between the road and the water... on the other side of the water are the mountains... on the other side of the road are cliffs.  With all of the snow melting up in the mountains there were quite a few areas where water was pouring off the mountains like little mini waterfalls right on the side of the road (tomorrow I am bringing an empty bottle with me).  We decided to drive into the town of Girdwood which is nestled at the base of the Alyeska Mountain (we found a house for sale here... if only we could afford to be 'bi-coastal'!!)   :)  On our drive, we also drive past a marshy area where much to my surprise, we spotted more moose!!!!  :)  We found some trails right off of the road in the Chugach State Park that we are going back to tomorrow morning for some hiking and then headed back to the city for our dinner reservation.  As we began heading back into the city we realized that the sun was hitting the mountains in a way that made them just glisten... I attempted to catch this with the camera but couldn't... it looked as if God had taken a paint brush and dipped it into some pearly white paint and took to glazing what I feel are his most majestic creations!!

God's pearly canvas that doesn't shine in the picture like it does to the naked eye!!

We had dinner reservations at Glacier Brewhouse right here in town and it was DELICIOUS!!  This place not only brews it's own beer but also Root Beer and Cream Sode (which I had)... we started the meal with an appetizer of steamed King Crab legs, Jason had a Salmon dish with a homemade barbeque sauce on it and I had an herb crusted Halibut dish... we asked the waiter what he suggested we order for dessert and he said hands-down the bread pudding, so we went for it!!  Everything was sooooo good and we didn't leave feeling miserable, in fact we felt so good that we went down to the coast to witness the perfect ending to an awesome day... an Alaskan sunset!!

It's not what you think... it's my Cream Soda!!
We'd already started cracking when I realized I forgot to take a picture!!

Our first Alaskan sunset...

Now we're back in our very comfy bed at the hotel and very much looking forward to some hiking tomorrow morning and some shopping tomorrow afternoon (and our course, more good food)!!  Night all!!
