Well we did it! We managed to make it across the country with a toddler (and all of our stuff) without making anybody hate us! Oliver did EXTREMELY WELL - he blew both of us away with how well behaved he was on the planes and in the airports. He had every Flight Attendant wrapped around his little finger. I had 10 days worth of entertainment packed in his backpack and we used 3/4 of that and less than 3/4 of the food/snacks that I had packed for him! Decents were a little rough for him but that consisted of a little bit of whining - no screams/crying at all!!!
Here are some pictures from our plane rides.
"What do you mean we're flying?!?"
He actually took a nap!!
Seattle had some VERY low cloud cover so we were put into a holding patten that caused us to circle Mt. Rainier - what a BEAUTY! Snow covered mountains just do something to my soul!
Hand holding at landing time made Mommy and Oliver feel better! :)
Once we arrived, picked up all of our luggage and our rental car we made our way to our favorite destination (and always our first stop after we arrive) - Moose's Tooth! They make the best pizza I have ever tasted so it was the perfect restaurant to introduce Oliver to first because he is a pizza loving boy!
We headed out with our leftovers (tomorrow's lunch) and a little boy who was starting to get really impatient since his little body was still on East Coast time. We ran into Walmart for some groceries (LOVING having a house this year)!! When we came out it was raining but the sun was still shining so as you can imagine this caused some BEAUTIFUL rainbows all over the place but our favorite was spotted as well pulled up to the house and looked at the mountain across from the valley.
I didn't take pictures around the house because I was too busy unpacking but I will take them later. Our little guy is down for the night (he went down around 11:30am Eastern Time) and I am quickly fading but I am drawn to sit here all night because just outside of our sliding glass door I am listening to the roar of a river at the bottom of the valley!
To the right of the house when we are on the deck we have what is quite possibly my favorite view EVER - a snow capped mountain! Fresh white, sparkly snow, surrounded my yellow mountains that just glow with autumn's beauty.
We plan to keep tomorrow kind of simple so that Oliver can have a day that is a little more like a day at home - it will also give me a chance to sit and scout out the moose that have been hanging around the property recently enjoying berries.
We are looking forward to spending this week introducing Oliver to this beautiful place and all that it has to offer. God lead us to this state is 2011 when we were still in the midst of our fertility struggles - it was "our place" - the place where we felt like we could leave the pain and the heartache behind and see God at work. Little did we know that God already had a plan and he has now given us the opportunity to share our experiences and love for Alaska with our son - soooo exciting!!
Sleep is taking over - it's almost 1am Eastern Time and who knows when Oliver is going to wake up! Goodnight all (Good morning to those who are reading this on Sunday.)
